Environmental protection is a priority and a long-standing concern at NIDEK. We implemented an environmental policy almost 20 years ago, and we review our environmental objectives annually.
All of our environmental approaches are ISO 14001 certified. This is the most recognised sustainable development certification. It is based on the principle of continuous improvement of environmental performance by controlling the impacts related to the company’s activity with a double commitment to continuous improvement and regulatory compliance. We are very proud to have been awarded this certification.
In order to reduce our CO2 emissions due to the use of fossil fuels, a solar energy production system (photovoltaic panels) was installed at our plants in Japan in 2009.
NIDEK is aware of the importance of corporate social responsibility and the protection of the global environment. That is why we are continuously working to improve our environmental policy.
We are focussing our procurement on a “green supply chain”. As part of our environmental policy, we encourage environmentally-focused purchases, asking our suppliers to create an environmental management system based on ISO 14001 certification.
We design eco-responsible products, reducing harmful substances in our products and striving to minimise our environmental burden, from product development and manufacturing to disposal. This means we use recyclable materials, simplify our products’ “structure” to facilitate disassembly, reduce the number of parts and screws used, reduce packaging waste and provide disposal procedures, reduce device weight and energy consumption. (LM7, Série AR/ARK, LFU, ME-1500, ICE-1500, TS-310)
We conserve natural resources and promote zero emissions (in 2020, NIDEK CO further improved its recycling rate to 99% of its waste).
We communicate internally on environmental practices and educate our staff on environmental issues.
Next-generation NIDEK devices are 90% recyclable (by weight).
We use LED light bulbs and develop “auto-standby” functions on all our devices to reduce their energy consumption.
On the packaging side, we apply the 3R rule: reduce, reuse, recycle (using just enough packaging to avoid wasting resources).
At NIDEK SA, we develop consultation units with more than 75% local procurement and manufacturing, which means that our units are “Origine France Garantie” certified, currently the only certification guaranteeing a minimum of 50% French product design and manufacture.
NIDEK SA also adheres to “ECOSYSTEM” and finances the collection and recycling industry approved for professional electrical waste (EEEW Pro). This voluntary commitment offers simple and free solutions to recycle your medical devices and your glass grinding tools. You receive a certificate and the assurance of rigorous processing that complies with regulations. This not-for-profit sector approved by public authorities collects and recycles used electrical and electronic equipment from construction, industry, research and medical sources free of charge.
We dematerialise our responses to tenders, invoicing and brochures as much as possible. Our printers are “Imprim’vert” certified.
And, we began replacing our vehicle fleet with hybrid vehicles in 2021.
