Thanks to the Lyon region’s long tradition of mechanical excellence, NIDEK France decided to install its consulting unit factory in the area in 1993. NIDEK SA sources and manufactures more than 75% of its units locally, which means that they can be certified “Origine France Garantie”, the only certification currently guaranteeing a minimum of 50% French product design and manufacture.

All the consultation units developed by NIDEK France are thoroughly studied to meet three excellence criteria:
Accessing all the functions is intuitive and as natural as possible. On the NIDEK units all repetitive motions are powered and automated to prevent musculoskeletal disorders that have become a serious health problem. They are the main incapacity for work and the main cause of productivity losses inside the European Union.
The settings are performed at the beginning of the exam, thanks to the “constant eye height” of the units and to the refractor arm. This means adjusting plate and seat heights is not required when switching from an instrument to another.
NIDEK prefers taking on local suppliers to make sure its units are reliable and robust. The quality of the materials and elements used for the fabrication is continuously controlled. We use digital stepper motors and motherboards specially developed in France for NIDEK, to build our consultation units.
Many technical tests are performed to ensure the operation during at least one hundred thousand cycles, representing fifty cycles per day, two hundred days per year for ten years. NIDEK units can be used by all types of ophthalmology centers and fit all patient flows. An unclutching system is included to make possible operating manually the units in case one of the systems is faulty, so that the practitioner can carry on with its activity, in all circumstances.
The patient’s movements are limited during the consultation, because of the settings performed at the beginning of the exam.
As the patient’s sitting position is stable and comfortable, the patient is perfectly positioned, thus making the consultation more efficient and the result more precise.
Many settings are proposed, such as the rotation or the anterior-posterior and a large range of swivel-chair seats and accessories are available, such as armrests and footrests, to optimise the patient’s comfort and position.
All NIDEK consultation units are designed to optimise the medical examination and the refraction. These units are hybrid, adapted, multifunction, powered and user-friendly. They are designed to provide comfort and safety to the practitioner and the patient.
