Lasers YAG use photodisruption to destroy the targeted tissue during capsulotomy and peripheral iridotomy cures. The laser SLT stimulates the trabecular tissue to restore the circulation of the aqueous humour, through a laser selective trabeculoplasty surgery.
Ophthalmologists frequently use these applications. They require a comfortable laser presenting a good visualisation through the eyepieces and the slit lamp optical unit. Laser beams have accurate focusing systems ensuring a safe operating. Moreover, to adapt to all types of morphologies, focusing is possible by moving the impact point in front of or behind the focal point.
In order to make the surgery more comfortable, using specially designed contact lenses is possible to target a precise zone of the eye. So, the equipment of laser YAG/SLT also includes capsulotomy, iridotomy and SLT lenses.
Interventions using laser YAG or YAG/SLT are performed during a usual consultation, and do not require hospitalisation.
The YC 200 S Plus is a laser combining the technologies YAG and SLT designed to perform different treatments: capsulotomy, peripheral iridotomy, selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). It comprises a LED lighting slit lamp and provides a clear and natural vision of the eye structures.

Whatever using lasers YAG or the combined systems YAG/SLT, viewing the eye to cure is performed through an integrated slit lamp on which the different laser beams overlap. Integrating the slit lamp means a user’s friendlier, more stable and safer instrument.
The laser YAG photodisruption (wavelength: 1064 nm) makes possible performing anterior and posterior capsulotomy and peripheral iridotomy cures. This technique is a low-energy one. It produces a shock wave resulting from the formation of plasma, that destroys the tissues around the impact point.
The focusing system of the laser works using the alignment of two aiming beams and ensures the accurate positioning of the impact point on the targeted zone.
The impact can be defocused by -500 µm to +500 µm in front of or behind the impact, thus making possible performing different cures. It can adapt to any type of profile.
The Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is dedicated to cure open-angle glaucomas. Using the same doubled-frequency laser cavity (YAG) allows getting a green wavelength (532 nm) to specifically target the trabecular meshwork located at the bottom of the filtration angle.
The SLT treatment stimulates the activity of cytokines. These proteins work to eliminate the aqueous humour of the anterior chamber, without heating the surrounding tissue. The purpose is restoring the circulation of the aqueous humour to reduce the intraocular pressure.
Thanks to laser parameters specifically dedicated to the SLT treatment, the intervention is carried out without damaging the eye tissues, without pain, and can be renewed if necessary.
In case of YAG laser intervention, using a treatment lens is optional, although capsulotomy ad iridotomy lenses allow better viewing the targeted zone, thanks to magnification. It takes only a few seconds and makes possible correcting secondary cataracts (capsulotomy) or closed-angle glaucomas or through spontaneous closure (peripheral iridotomy). In case of SLT surgery, a special lens should be used (close to a gonioscopy lens) to precisely aim at the filtration angle and treat open-angle glaucomas.
